One of the greatest concerns of seniors and their families is the cost of long term care, especially the cost of nursing home care. How will you pay for long term care? Are there any insurance policies or government programs in place that will cover the cost of long term care? What happens between needing regular care but not being ready for a nursing home or assisted living facility?

The best time to plan for long term care, including the costs and providers of a range of services necessary to meet your personal needs - including basic tasks of everyday life, is before you need it. Probate is the legal process by which assets titled in a decedent’s name are transferred to his or her heirs or beneficiaries. The entire process is supervised by the probate court of the county in which the decedent resided.

If the decedent had no Will or estate planning documents, the probate court will supervise the distribution of the decedent’s property to the persons designated to receive them by Ohio law.

 - The admission of the Will to probate
- The notification of all heirs
- The inventory and valuation of the decedent’s assets
- The presentation and payment of claims against the estate
